Everything about Old East totally explained
Old East is located at the north part of campus in
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. It is the oldest state university building in the
United States.
History and Today
Its corner stone was laid on
October 12,
1793. After one century, October 12th was declared to be the birthday of
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In 1966, this building became one of the national Historical Landmarks.
Today, renovated Old East is still housing male and female students as a dormitory building.
Culture
The
Old Well and Old East, as the earliest buildings in UNC, have long been the symbols of the university. There are some collections of art about Old East and the Old Well in
Blowing Rock Art and History Museum
, North Carolina as well as in UNC-Chapel Hill's Wilson Library.
